Mother Jones has an interesting interactive map that details US military presence throughout the world from 1950 to 2007. It’s interesting to see where US troops have been concentrated during different time periods, and more interesting to read the details about different locations. Too bad the interactivity only works when the slider is set to 2007.

From Mother Jones:
The map… uses Pentagon worldwide troop data from every half-decade since 1950, plus 2007, the latest year for which the data is available. These numbers are often fuzzy: Some deployments are classified, others are temporary, and just because the Defense Department claims 30 US troops in Indonesia last year doesn’t mean 1,500 didn’t pass through on training missions. Even so, the map, and the associated research, should give you a good feel for what the Pentagon is up to around the world.

This ad from the 1968 is only mildly sexist… right. The text at the bottom reads: “Women of the future will make the moon a cleaner place to live.” Optimism about the Apollo project AND male domination! I don’t think this ad would go over too well in modern America.

Alright, so it’s official… I’m graduating! I went to my last class on Monday night and just have one project to put the finishing touches on. The past two weeks were really intense, but its all over. I have ‘industry night’ on Thursday and ARRAY opens on Friday. If you’re wondering, industry provides graduating students with a chance to show off their portfolios to representatives from a shit-load of different companies. So, basically, I just set up a table and talk to people and show them my work… and network. Maybe a jobby-job will come of it… Anyway, after all of this, its off to Asia! Still don’t have my Visa, however, but I’m getting it tomorrow.
I’ve also been moving out of my apartment this past week, to add to my busyness. I’m sub-letting while I’m out of town and giving up my lease when I return. It feels rather odd leaving this apartment that I’ve been living in for 3 years… and its going to be weird coming back to Chicago as a working man rather than a student. Whatever, I don’t have time to be sentimental! Goodbye 16 X 16 studio… I will miss you dearly!

I found this interesting little veggie over at Letters From the End Consumer. I wonder if this carrot could make as much money on eBay as a potato chip that looks like Jesus… or a beet that looks like Mother Theresa…

“Dear secret force of the universe, be it intelligent or just accident/chance or cause and effect, whatever you believe in, can we just agree that sometimes the best stuff in life is almost free, found in a veggie bag in your fridge.”
